Affirmations
Affirmations are statements
of intent that are made as though they are already facts. In their most
basic form they are an aspect of positive thinking, as in the famous dictum;
Every day, in every way, I am getting better and better. - an affirmation
created as a mantra by French psychologist and pharmacist Emile Coue.
When combined with various
therapies related to hypnosis, such as autosuggestion, and hypnotherapy,
that affirmations can best be exploited. They are used, for example, at
certain points where the desired outcome is autogenic modification
- improvement in the functional use of a particular part of the body or
perhaps by overcoming a chronic condition. For example when treating hay
fever, you could use the affirmation pollen doesn't matter while
in the autogenically induced state of deep relaxation.
