Arica
The Arica system is a
training programme in self-development, originated by the Bolivian mystic,
Oscar Ichaza. The Arica Institute was established in New York in 1972,
following a trip by 50 Americans to Ichaza in Arica, Chile. Arica is sometimes
referred to as scientific mysticism and aims at a scientific understanding
of the psyche and the transformation of socIET®y.
Arica represents a synthesis
of a number of disciplines, combining aspects of eastern esoteric traditions
such as Tibetan Buddhism, Yoga and Zen with western Humanistic Psychology
and a scientific approach to meditation and altered states of consciousness.
Central to Arica is the new discipline called psychocalisthenics and it's
systematic programme of breathing and movement exercises and meditation
aimed at achieving unity of body, mind and emotions at each of nine levels
of consciousness.
