Atavistic
Regression
Australian psychotherapist
Ainsley Meares believed that a hypnotic trance is reminiscent of a state
of mind that is earlier than the development of reason. Frequently animals
instinctively know what types of food or vegetation to seek out for their
physical ailments. When hypnotise humans have also diagnosed their own
condition beyond their conscious knowledge of anatomy or medicine.
Atavistic regression, which
is a mix of hypnosis and meditation, seeks to reproduce this atavistic
state of mind by removing the patient's foremost fears and worries thus
permitting the body to continue its natural self-healing process. This
is also known as mental ataraxis.
