Biodynamic
Psychotherapy
Biodynamic psychotherapy
was developed by the Norwegian psychologist and physiotherapist, Gerda
Boyesen. In biodynamic psychology the therapist 'works with both body
and mind, with particular attention to the body's psychological defences,
which are anchored in muscle tension otherwise known as muscle armour.
Massage and breathing techniques are used in order to help patients to
get in touch with their own feelings. Core to the process of dealing with
body armouring is the concept of psycho-peristalsis. This is the process
by which the somatic effects of the emotions are released and cleared
via the digestive system.
