![]() My Ear Candling StoryI have suffered with ear problems all my life. When I was a child I was always getting ear aches with the result as I got older sometimes my hearing would be affected , I also suffer with sinus which does not help my ears. I had the Ear Candling done once in the RDS and found it very beneficial so I decided to do the Course for myself. I completed the course in October 2007. It has helped me and a lot of other people with problems with their Ears Head Nose and Throat. What is Ear Candling ?Thermo-Auricular Therapy (ear candling) is a pleasant non-invasive treatment of the ears and used to treat a varIET®y of conditions. Hopi Ear Candles are named after the Native American Hopi Indians of North Arizona who first introduced this gentle therapy to the West. The Translation of the word Hopi means ‘peaceful ones’. These ear candles induce a revitalising heat upon the head and ears, which soothes, relieves and relaxes. Today ear candling is performed in many natural healthcare practices. Although the ears may appear to be isolated structures, they are directly linked to the nose and throat. The visible part of the ear, the pinna, is connected to the ear canal, which ends at the eardrum. Beyond this membrane lies the middle ear, and air filled space connected to the back of the nasal cavity and to the throat by a channel called the Eustachian tube. This tube ensures that the air pressure is the same on both sides of the eardrum. Our ears provide us with two very different senses: hearing and balance. Sound detected by the ears provides us with essential information about our external surroundings and allows us to communicate in highly sophisticated ways, such as through speech and music. In addition our ears contribute to our sense of balance. Ear problems and infections can upset this delicate balance. The candles are made from: Beeswax, Honey extract. The candles are still hand made today on the basis of the old traditional methods originating from the Hopi Indians, using the finest organic ingredients.
Ear Candling TreatmentDuring an ear candling treatment, an initial consultation is given to ensure the treatment is right for the patient. A relaxing atmosphere is created, with soothing music, they are then asked to lie on their side on a therapy bed where the practitioner gently inserts a candle in the first ear and then the other. A light suction action (chimney effect) and the movement of the flame create a vibration of air in the ear candle, generating a massage-like effect on the eardrum. This induces a feeling of warmth and a balance of pressure in the ears, forehead and sinuses. The physical effect is often described directly after the treatment as a soothing, pressure and pain relieving sensation, mainly in the ear and head area. Treatment may also spontaneously cause freer nasal breathing and an improved sense of smell even when the nose was blocked before treatment. Gentle heat is experienced around the ear, promoting the blood and lymph circulation. The ingredients of the candle vaporise and circulate around the outer part of the ear. This draws out impurities and promotes the natural release of excessive earwax from the ear canal. Earwax is softened and can be removed up to 48 hours after a treatment, e.g. it is usually naturally expelled in the shower or in the pillow in the morning. As the ingredients vaporise, they are drawn down inside the candle and circulate around the ear canal. (The sizzling sound the client hears is the ingredients vaporising). The vapours are also inhaled through the nose and into the lungs, where their therapeutic properties are circulated around the body via the blood. Many of the ingredients of the candles have properties that calm and soothe the nervous system, and also have the effect of lifting depression and promoting a feel good factor. Included is a light head and facial Massage and Reiki. After wards the contents of the candle are examined to see how effective the treatment has been and to indicate how further treatments should proceed. The treatment is non-invasive where the Client remains fully dressed. It is a safe and effective treatment for Adults & Children What Medical Conditions can Hopi Ear Candling Treat ?Ear Candling is an effective treatment for a wide number of conditions including the following:
When flying, it is a good idea to have a treatment if you suffer with ear or sinus problems, before and after flights. Ear candling is also an alternate (and a much more pleasant) treatment than ear syringing. How Many Ear Candling Treatments are Needed? This depends upon the condition being treated and on the responsiveness of the individual being treated by this complementary therapy. The therapist will assess this after each treatment however some people respond very quickly while others may require treatment over a number of months. ContraindicationsHopi ear candles should not be used if there is any inflammation or infection in the ear and are not suitable for people who have had recent ear surgery or those with ear grommets or tubes, perforated ear drums, or allergies to any of the products in the candle. Anyone who is receiving medical treatment for any ear condition should always consult their doctor first. Some clients may experience light popping in the ears during or after treatment.
